There are dozens of mobile phone suppliers, some of them with national plans and products, others offering a global reach. Let’s look at three of the more common international mobile phone suppliers.

Nokia is responsible for several firsts in the mobile phone industry. Nokia introduced the first international cell phone network to the world in 1981 in Scandinavia. It also introduced the first car phones anywhere in the world, and the first hand portable NMT, called the Nokia Cityman. The latter was introduced in 1987.

In March of 2005 Nokia announced the Nokia 6630 imaging smartphone, which was the first mobile handset to achieve WCDMA 3G certification. The independent industry overseer, Global Certification Forum (GCF) gave this certification to the Nokia 6630, because of its compliance with network requirements for mobile devices.

A world communications leader, this mobile phone supplier connects people and information with continually innovative mobile products that are easy to use. These products include mobile phones, imaging devices, businesses, games and media.

Another mobile carrier innovator, Kyocera, had its start in 1959 was as Kyoto Ceramic Company Ltd, in Tokyo. The first products were ceramics. The office opened in 1960. A plant was established in 1968, and in 1968 Kyocera earned the first annual reward from the Medium and Small Business Research Institute, as a mobile phone supplier. The same year the California office of Kyocera was opened. This later became Kyocera International Inc.

Motorola is perhaps the most diverse of the mobile phone suppliers, with many diverse products. Its latest mobile endeavor is a partnership with mobile phone carrier Sprint and software giant Intel.

Together with Motorola and Intel, Sprint Next el plans on developing a U.S. network infrastructure for the deployment of the first fourth generation mobile and broadband network. It will provide WIMAX chipsets that will offer advanced wireless broadband services for portable multimedia, computing, and other interactive activities. These suppliers will offer enhanced mobile phone usage that is faster, less costly and more convenient. The Sprint Nextel 4G network will use extensive 2.5 GHz spectrum holdings. These now reach more than 85 percent of the U.S. household market. NO other wireless carrier offers such single spectrum band reach. This service will soon be available thanks to mobile supplier Motorola, mobile carrier Sprint Nextel and software manufacturer and designer Intel.
